Kenneth R. Gross

Kenneth R. Gross, 84, of rural Milton passed away on Saturday morning, August 30, 2014 at Huntington Memory Care in Janesville. Kenneth was born in Janesville on August 14, 1930, the son of Fredrick and Hedwig (Zesiger) Gross. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1949. Kenneth married his sweetheart, Elsbeth Birkhofer on October 29, 1955 at St. John Lutheran Church in Janesville. He met her when she was here from Switzerland to visit her uncle and he followed her back to Switzerland, her homeland, and brought her back to Janesville. Kenneth worked for his father at Atlas Sand & Gravel Company until 1955 when he purchased a farm on Stark Road where he resided with his family ever since. In addition to farming, Kenneth worked construction jobs during the summertime. He especially enjoyed raising tobacco on his farm. Thru the years, he and Elsbeth made numerous trips back to Switzerland for visit family and friends. He especially enjoyed the trips as he was able to communicate in the Swiss dialect. In later years, he and Elsbeth enjoyed spending winters in Florida. In recent years, Ken’s special joy was driving his golf cart around the farm and reminiscing about times past. He was a hardworking, loving man that especially enjoyed his family. He was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church, Janesville.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 59 years, Elsbeth, two children, Christine (Larry) Flessert of Fort Atkinson, Timothy Gross of Milton and one niece, Debra Gross of Janesville. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his brother, George Gross.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville. Pastor Bond Haldeman will officiate. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
